The Rock Cycle
You only need to take a quick look around you to discover the importance of rocks and minerals in our lives. In this final part of the workshop we will explore the links between the three main rock types and how one type can transform into another.
Whilst many rocks that you will see and analyse may be very old, rocks do not stay the same forever.
Rocks are continuously eroded and recycled. The rock cycle describes the processes that rocks undergo to transform from one type of rock into other types of rock.
The diagram above shows the steps needed for one type of rock to transform into another.
