A GEOBUS WORKSHOP AT HOME
Under the current lockdown, many students are learning from home, so we are creating GeoBus workshops that you can access and follow from anywhere.
Each topic will include videos, 3D models, links and worksheets to watch and try at home. Follow each section and discover the fascinating world of Earth science!
Worksheet and Activity Pack Downloads
Here you will find free GeoBus worksheets and activities to download and try at home. Many of these activities are practical exercises and may require additional materials and adult supervision to complete.
ROCKS AND MINERALS
Our Activity Pack will help you explore the topic of rocks from the comfort of your home. Inside the pack you will find instructions and supplementary activity worksheets. The Activity Pack is aimed at those in Key Stage two, but younger children can have a go with some help. These resources include a bright and colourful GeoGuide to identifying common sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks plus a fun challenge task to encourage students to describe their rocks and draw their observations.
Extra notes: Print the GeoGuide booklet double-sided to form a full guide.
*The rock cycle worksheet and activity pack has been updated to use correct key words
Earthquakes
Download our Earthquake themed tasks including a word-search that will introduce you to seismic keywords. ‘Simulating Earthquakes’ will put your design skills to the test to create waves and challenge you to design a shake-proof building.
Volcanoes
Assemble your own volcano using the GeoBus cutout worksheet (‘make your own volcano’). You will need scissors and glue to make the volcano after colouring it in. Then cut out and stick the keywords to the correct parts of the volcano to create a fully labelled and free standing volcano to keep. Learn what can be found inside a volcano and then create an erupting volcano using our building worksheet.
Note: Adult supervision is required to ‘build an erupting volcano’ as this practical activity can get messy!
Fossils
Our Activity Pack will help you explore the topic of fossils from the comfort of your home. Inside the pack you will find instructions and supplementary activity worksheets. The Activity Pack is aimed at those in Key Stage two, but younger children can have a go with some help. Use the ‘Make a fossil’ worksheet to create your own ammonite and trace fossils using salt dough. Then build your own Fossil Box to store and keep your GeoBus fossil forever. Our ‘How are fossils made?’ worksheet will show you how a mould and cast fossil is made.
Space
Explore the solar system and fill in the names of the planets using our fun worksheet. Get creative and make your own space rock using our ‘Make a meteorite’ worksheet and finally put your skills to the test with our memory game! There are two memory game levels. Try to solve the names first then put your brain to the test and see if you can memorise some fascinating facts!
